About Us

TechFW is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been helping entrepreneurs launch and grow emerging technology companies since 1998. We identify entrepreneurs and startup companies with technologies that have a high potential for success in the marketplace.

Then, we mentor, coach and relentlessly push them toward success. Where and when appropriate, we match the resources of the community with the passion of entrepreneurs to nurture and grow the startups.

SINCE 1998

history

TechFW was created in an effort to diversify the Fort Worth economy through an emphasis on new technologies. While originally focused on medical technologies, TechFW broadened its mission in 2003 by including any companies with proprietary technology.

The funds that launched TechFW came primarily from large local private foundations, including the Sid Richardson Foundation and the Amon Carter Foundation. The remainder of the funds were derived from local businesses focused on technology, including Alcon Laboratories and RadioShack, as well as private businesses and service providers in the community.

These companies and organizations believed that nurturing new companies with the potential for growth would be good for the economic health of our community.

In 2005, the city of Fort Worth and the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth formed a partnership to provide additional funding for TechFW and have since provided funding and support, supplemented by grant funding from the state.

In 2004, TechFW moved into its first real “home” – the former gymnasium at the James E. Guinn school campus, which had been renovated by the city of Fort Worth for this very purpose. This building consists of two floors of offices available for lease by TechFW clients to help them get their businesses off the ground.

In 2008, the TechFW Acceleration Lab at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth was opened to provide laboratory space for TechFW clients who needed wet labs in addition to their offices.

Since 2006, when Darlene Ryan and Brent Sorrells became the executive director and operations manager for TechFW, respectively, the focus has been on programs intended to reach the results envisioned when the organization was founded.
