The IMPACT Awards recognize North Texas start-up companies that are bringing innovative technologies to market that will impact our world. The awards are handed out in three categories:

Environment – Recognizing companies that will solve our environmental problems by creating cleaner energy sources, reducing or eliminating waste, and improving the efficiency of current systems.

Community – Recognizing companies that are providing solutions for our society and global community by enhancing our connectivity and communication, improving education, and increasing safety & security.

Health – Recognizing companies that will improve our health and wellness by developing better prevention and treatments, creating methods for earlier detection and more accurate diagnosis, and improving healthcare and delivery.

Winners of the IMPACT Awards will be recognized at the IMPACT Awards Luncheon on May 23, 2012. In addition, winners receive professional videos.  They, as well as the Finalists, have one-page profiles in the IMPACT Awards publication. The publication is distributed to all Fort Worth Business Press subscribers.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are early-stage businesses in North Texas with an innovative product that will have a significant impact on our environment, community or health. They should have less than $1M in sales, have been in business less than five years, and own or have exclusive rights to a new technology.  Applicants will need to be available to present at the Pitch Event for their category.  Award finalists must be available to attend the IMPACT Awards Luncheon.

Applications are being accepted for J&J funds available for opportunities that transform healthcare

FORT WORTH, TX – TECH Fort Worth and three local technology entities have collaborated with Johnson & Johnson to ascertain the healthcare company’s mechanisms of support and funding to companies of interest.

The Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science and Technology (COSAT) is an umbrella organization within Johnson & Johnson that monitors new developments in science and technology in terms of their relevance to the strategic interests of the J&J family of companies. COSAT’s interests include medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology and consumer products.

COSAT, created in 1978, consists of a team of technical and clinical experts whose primary objective is to find, fund and foster high-risk, high-impact opportunities that hold the potential to transform healthcare.

Interested companies should submit a non-confidential abstract/executive summary of their start-up opportunity for COSAT’s pre-screening review to Brent Sorrells (brent@TECHFortWorth.org) by Saturday, January 28th.

Last year, J&J funded 75 companies, none in Texas.

COSAT reviews early-stage opportunities to consider for a non-dilutive seed grant funding program. Awardees could benefit several ways:

• Seed (non-dilutive) funding, which is usually capped at around $250K;
• Access to J&J’s internal experts in a relevant domain, and
• Enhanced visibility in the investment community by virtue of J&J’s support.

Venture Docs Signs Agreement With TECH Fort Worth

Hopes to accelerate growth, offer solutions for startups

FORT WORTH, TX –VentureDocs, which provides cloud-based customized legal documents for the legal and capital formation of startup companies, has been accepted as an Acceleration Client by TECH Fort Worth.

As part of the relationship, TECH Fort Worth has purchased the VentureDocs solution for its other incubation and acceleration clients.

TECH Fort Worth is a nonprofit business incubator that helps companies commercialize their technologies, with particular emphasis on technologies that potentially have a major impact in the areas of the environment, health and community.

VentureDocs is a system for automating the drafting of important legal documents for technology startup companies and their investors. Its products include corporate formation and founder documents for new Delaware and Texas corporations, stock option plans and agreements, and documents for “friends and family” common stock financing transactions and sophisticated angel and institutional investor convertible note and preferred stock financing transactions.

VentureDocs Doccelerator™ programs allow users to proceed through an intuitive point-and-click menu system for putting in unique information and making choices for the language that will be inserted to create highly-customized legal documents. The programs assist in preparing company agreements and corporate and securities documents, reliably and possibly more cost effectively. VentureDocs is an open system and can be used by entrepreneurs, incubators, angel investors, venture capitalists, friends and family/individual investors and their attorneys.

“We don’t want to replace the attorneys, just make them more efficient,” said Bo Sartain, a corporate attorney and the founder and CEO of VentureDocs. “Pre-funded, pre-revenue companies have very limited resources to spend on legal matters. VentureDocs allows attorneys to focus on document review and giving advice instead of the laborious process of document preparation.  By using VentureDocs, companies can get the legal advice they need within budget and attorneys can mitigate the amount of write-offs they have for early-stage companies.”

VentureDocs also helps entrepreneurs and investors find local attorneys to answer questions, give legal advice and guide them through the process.  According to Sartain, “the ultimate help feature of the site is directing entrepreneurs and investors to attorneys. No amount of programming can replace the skill and judgment of a seasoned attorney.”

VentureDocs was formed in May 2011. Sartain’s law firm, Sartain PC, has been in existence since January 2005 and specializes in venture capital, private equity, lending transactions, mergers and acquisitions and outsourced general counsel services.
